Khaki and ripped jeans

When you think about the colour green there are just so many tones and variations and it really means that there is a shade to suit everyone! After a sort of trial and error of different greens I think this top is the one! I ordered it last summer from Misguided and it is a khaki crop top but it also crosses to join at the back and has this lovely delicate crocket pattern at the bottom. It has a strange combination of features as the cropped, short style is ideal for keeping cool in summer but then the long sleeves and thick material means it can be worn with jeans (as I did) in the colder weather.

These are my favourite jeans and they are Topshop ripped jeans. They are so comfy and never seem to feel loose or saggy in between washes. They only thing I would say about them is that when I got them the rips were a lot smaller and since wearing them the rips have grown and now look less man made than they did when I first got them, but they definitely are one of my favourite things to wear!

Finding my style

Browsing through blogs and seeing the different colours, fonts and layouts everyone has and the different things people choose to write about just shows how no two people are the same. Everyone puts together a slightly different blog but it doesn't mean that there is a right or wrong way of doing it and the variety is what makes people click on everyones blogs because if they were all the same it would be boring!

For me, I like to have a clean and matching blog. So there is plenty of white space with elegant text and try and match the colours, not that it always works out but I can finally say that after starting and failing to continue many blogs I am actually happy with the way this one is going.
I am also a massive stationary hoarder, and I'm not going to deny it. I can go into Paperchase and just wander round the aisles mesmerised by the selection of pens, the variety of post-it notes and the endless amount of animal shaped rubbers they have. But ultimately, it's the notebooks that hold the key to my heart. I have a notebook for everything and I like them all to have separate purposes, so for example, I found this amazing spotty notebook in Sainsburys and it is now to plan blog posts. Being a bit of a control freak and I like to be able to physically write down plans and ideas and this obsession has ultimately lead to draws overflowing with notebooks!

Unwinding in busy times

Dog walking, for me, is a way I can relax and clear my head. It is something I have to do everyday because Monty, being a spaniel, needs at least one long walk and then a little trip down to the park or something in the afternoon. But since getting Monty it has made a massive difference to everyone my family and going for regular walks is now an enjoyable thing. With exams coming up and coursework deadlines all set, having to go for these walks forces me to take time out and exercise and I come back to the work with a more positive outlook. I never thought from when I was younger and my Mum would force us all to go for a walk on a Sunday that I would now enjoy them so much and actually look forward to going even early Sunday mornings!

Walks are even better when you get to see amazing wildlife standing right in front of you!

Until a noisy Monty scares him off...

Pinafore and Stripes

This is one of my absolute favourite outfits! It makes me feel a sort of weird mix of feelings because it takes me back to childhood when I basically lived in dungarees but then as it is a skirt at the bottom it gives a nice summery feel. The material is soft and so comfy to wear lounging around the house or dressed up a little for an evening out. The denim makes it easy to wear different coloured and patterned tops underneath and I love the way the stripes look with them. I have had quite a lot of wear out of this throughout the winter as well by chucking on a thick pair of tights and layering a coat on top so it really is very versatile!

Enjoying my time at home

This year is going to be a big change for me as in September, all being well, I will be going to Uni and so this is really my last year living at home which is quite scary and weird to think about. I have to be honest been not thinking about it too much because I have still got a lot of things coming up before then like, my exams, a holiday and then I have all the planning to do for where I will live and moving all my stuff so its sort of at the back of my mind.

The thing I am least looking forward to is leaving my dog Monty! He still only 1 and I love walking him and grooming him and coming home to him waiting for me at the front door so it will be really hard not waking up and seeing him everyday. This is also my last school holiday before I leave college so after this I've got one last term and then I'm done for the summer and finally free! I'm really looking forward to starting my course, living on my own and being more independent but mostly I actually can't wait to see who's on my course and what it's like!!

As well as blogging and coursework I have been loving reading my latest book, The Cuckoo's Calling, which is one that my Mum and Grandparents have all read and thought I'd like it too. Its good so far and I would say it's very similar to the TV series Luther, a sort of crime book focusing on the main character Strike who is a private detective. I haven't finished it yet but people that like crime and mystery, this book is for you.

I've got some really exciting things to look forward to this summer and I have just been enjoying what I'm doing but getting the balance right between doing work and having time for myself and doing exciting things. This easter I've been able to get loads of coursework done but I have also had time to be out in the nice weather, going for walks, swimming and spending time with people and I have honestly felt so happy and like I've finally got the balance right!!

Pretty Nails For Summer

A whole shoes box of nail polish should confirm that I have a slight addition to buying them but I just love to have a variety of shades so that I can change depending on my outfit or where I'm going. So, last year I went to Florida on holiday and a massive stand of Sally Hansen nail polishes caught my eye. I picked out this one in the colour 230 Sweetie Pie and I love it!! I wondered whether it would be too pink and look bit crazy but, for the summer, it's perfect. The colour actually makes my feet look more tanned and with the gel texture my toes looked so gorgeous in the water and pale sand. This is also advertised as diamond strength and it really is. I was in and out of the water all day, walking through grass and sand and it would last around 4-5 days without needing a touch up. This is something that after testing for around a year I am still in love with and would urge anyone looking for cute summery toes to try this!

The start of summer shopping

As summer is slowly approaching I felt like there were a couple of things that I needed in my wardrobe. I had collected a lot of things last year like dresses and quite a few of the things I bought this winter like skirts, dresses and pinafores I had been wearing with thick tights and layered tops so in the summer I can just ditch the thermal extras! (fingers crossed the weather is good enough!!)
Having said that I didn't need anymore dresses, one of the things I got was a dress. But in my defence, I only have one other stripy dress and that one is black, so this navy one will be a nice addition. I loved the string detail on the front of it and I plan to wear this at the beach and when I go on holiday because it's material is nice and cool and comfy to wear!

Sticking with the summery blue theme, my next purchase was these patterned jeans. They are summer pants and the material is a bit of a cross between jeans and canvas trousers but I have been calling them jeans because it's easier! I was drawn to them because I didn't have anything else like this and in the summer when you don't want to be wearing jeans, these lighter and pretty jeans will be perfect.

This next thing was a bit of a risky buy because I have been eyeing up a hat like this all winter and I decided to buy it now before they go out of stock and are replaced with the summer hats. I plan on wearing this in the summer as well as next winter which I think is ok because the colour is quite versatile and I've already found lots of things that can be worn with this!

The last thing I got were these white shoes which I thought were lovely and being a neutral colour I will get a lot of wear out of these, with trousers or a dress which I love. The only thing I would say is that, I got these in my size (6) and they fit perfectly but the material they are made out of makes them quite stiff and so they are taking me a little while to  break in but they look gorgeous so they are definitely worth the pain!

Sunshine in Cornwall

This Easter holiday the weather really has changed and it's starting to feel as if summer is just around the corner. I'm actually sitting outside in my back garden now writing this and its so sunny I can hardly see my screen!

These pictures are from last Thursday and I went to Newquay and drove along the coast path managing to get a few snaps along the way but it was super busy with all the holiday makers down for Easter. There is sort of a mutual understanding that when the main beaches and attractions are packed in the holidays with holidaymakers all of the local tend to vent out to the less accessible and off the track places and beaches and I definitely think it's approaching that time of year! It is nice to have some life in Cornwall though and when the whether is like this it's great for everyone to be out enjoying the sun together!
